Gill Lavar Yardley, 85, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home in Manti. Gill was born October 23,1929 in Christianburg, Utah to Russell and Ethel Gill Yardley. He married Pauline Parry, September 22,1955. They had two children: Colleen and Jerilyn. She preceded him in death.
Gill served in the US Navy, and while there he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in several callings. He loved the arts and was in numerous plays, a well known part he played was Dosselmeyer in the local Nutcracker Ballet. He was a poet, and engineer who loved quantum physics. Gill bowled with the Sanpitch Sandbagger’s and they always knew that he would share his latest jokes with them. They were 1 st place champions in the 2001 Pioneer Legal Tournament.
Gill and Marlene’s marriage was solemnized in the Manti temple on December 29, 1993. They continued serving the community as innkeepers until the day of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughters Colleen Gonzales, Washington, UT; and Jerilyn Churchill, LaVerkin, UT; grandsons: Andrew White, Christian McGuire, and Shamus Tobin; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Beth Shurtleff and Althea Yardley.
Gill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Pauline, brothers Thomas R. Yardley, Birdell R. Yardley, Howard M. Yardley, and his sister, LaRue Yardley Hone.
Funeral services will be held Satuary, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manti Stake Center, 555 E Union Steet, where friends may call from 9-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Manti Cemetery. Funeral Directors: magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
The family would like to thank all of the family, friends and community members for all their assistance prior to and since Gill’s death.
