Georgeana Pickett

Gunnison, Utah

Georgeana Jensen Pickett, 68, while surrounded by her family, returned home to her loved ones on Sunday March 22, 2015, in Murray. She had fought a long, valiant battle with liver disease and endured many trials from post- transplant complications. George was not a complainer and through it all she kept a positive attitude, her great faith never lacking no matter how bad the circumstances.

Georgeana was born September 9, 1946 in Salina, Utah to Marvin and Esmont Jensen Jensen. She grew up as a farm girl where she learned the value of work helping her father on the family farm in Redmond, Utah. She also loved spending time with her mother where she learned how to be a loving, giving mother. She enjoyed time with friends where they had hours of entertainment playing night games in the summer and ice skating in the winter months.

Georgeana met Kirby Elliott Pickett and they were married in the Manti, Utah Temple on April 12, 1969. They settled down in Gunnison, Utah where they raised four children on the family dairy farm.

Georgeana earned her teaching degree from BYU and Utah State University and was a substitute teacher, but gave this all up to be a mother, the greatest teacher to her children in her own home.

She never missed a beat with her witty personality, which gained her countless, lifelong friends she loved and appreciated. She always looked forward to going out to eat with her friends. She was a great example to those around her and always a missionary. She wasn’t afraid to stick up for her beliefs, her friends and her family. She always made time for others.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, which she loved more than life, which was obvious through her words and actions. She always put her family first. She went the extra mile to make sure family get-togethers, birthdays and holidays were fun and memorable and that all were included and felt important. Mom loved her children and grandchildren so much and always included little lessons in the fun and activities she planned at family reunions and at Christmas time. She was always a wonderful teacher and made sure she taught her family the gospel, which she had a strong testimony of. If you knew Georgeana at all you knew her favorite holiday was Christmas. You could catch her celebrating it all year round. She always wanted things to be special for her family and supported them in everything they did. She was such a great example to everyone around her but mostly she taught her family right from wrong, she was always there for them, anytime and for anything.

George loved animals and had a kind heart towards them. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labors. Of course she shared this talent with her children teaching them how to be self-reliant. She also enjoyed tole painting, cooking, and was an excellent cook. You would always find her family gathered around the dinner table on Sundays enjoying a delicious home cooked meal. Often her children’s friends felt she was like a mother to them, making them feel just like one of her own.

Georgeana was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings over the years. She was the Relief Society president, ward historian, librarian, and worked with the youth. Three of her children served honorable LDS missions for the Church and all four were married and sealed in the temple.

Georgeana is survived by her husband: Kirby; children: Travis (Clara )Pickett, Enoch; Deina (Mike) Mitton, Gunnison; Terron (Tera) Pickett, Elmo; and Tana (Jesse) Newton, Gunnison; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Nelma Gates, Hyrum; and brother, Lee Jensen, Redmond. She was proceeded in death by her parents.
