George Stermer

George Samuel Stermer, 73, a resident of Richfield, passed away January 29, 2017, in Richfield. He was born July 3, 1943, to Mary Cassianni and George Samuel Stermer Sr. in Covina, California. He married Carol Payton October 13, 1962, in San Diego, California. They were divorced February 23, 1983. He married Valerie Butterfield, June 23, 1993, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
George served in the Marines and was active in the LDS Church as an elder. He worked at Roar Industries where he built 747 plane doors for many years. He moved to Utah in 1976, where he got a job at Sufco Mine as a miner, from which he retired. He was a hard worker and taught his kids to be the same way.
George and his first wife were very active in the Scouting program, both boys and girls, where they served for many years as leaders. He loved fishing, hunting and camping — anything outdoors he loved.
George is survived by his children from his first marriage: Crystal Wagner, George "Skeeter" (Lesia) Stermer, and Brett (Jennifer) Stermer; as well as by his wife, Valerie, and their children: Natalie Stermer and Michael Stermer. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher, Casey, Cody, Tyson, Jessica, Stetson, Jakell, Kaitlin, Kairi, Khloe and Khalie; great-grandchild, Payton; and a sister, Carolyn (John) Fagan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Carol.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050.
