George Byron Hawley, 97, father, grandfather and brother passed away October 9, 2017 in Provo, surrounded by family. He was born February 27, 1920 in Central Valley to Charles Byron and Afton George Hawley. George grew up in central Utah. He attended junior high and high school in Richfield. After graduating from high school, he attended the branch of Agricultural College in Cedar City.
When George was 20 years old he went into the Army. He fought in the European theater during World War II. Returning home from the Army, he and his dad farmed and ran their ranch in Central Valley and Three Creeks.
George married Beth Meyer, later divorced. He later married Glenda Staples Gentry; she passed away November 1976. He married LaVon Aldred Wayman, she preceded him in death November 13, 2010. Dad and LaVon had many years together with family and friends, spending time at Fish Lake and traveling.
George is survived by his children: Susan (Dewain) Peterson, Richfield; Sharon (Charles) Copeland, Logan; Charles (Kathleen) Hawley, Central Valley; stepchildren: Gary (Susan) Knudsen, Blaine (Janice) Wayman, Gayleen Wayman (Don Jefferies) and Becky Wayman; sister, Lorraine Buys; nephews, Richard Buys, Joe Buys, George Buys and Jim Buys. George has 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death are his parents; brother-in-law, Joe Buys; and stepchildren: Larry Gentry and Andrea Gentry.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 12:00 Noon in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel where friends may call Friday, from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Richfield City Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the V.F.W.
