George Milan Anderson

George Milan Anderson passed away peacefully on August 3, 2016, at his home in Elsinore, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. George was born February 3, 1924, in Elsinore, Utah to Niels Peter and Ada Lena Nielson Anderson. He spent his life in Elsinore and graduated from South Sevier High School. He then went to Utah State University. He served in World War II and gained a great love and respect for our country and the flag, a legacy he passed to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others.

George married Anna Ruth Foisy on January 3, 1944, in the Manti Utah Temple. They are the parents of six children. Anna Ruth passed away on May 10, 1960. He married Virginia McArthur Cuff on June 9, 1961, in the Logan Utah Temple. Virginia was married to William Ward Cuff. He preceded her in death. They are the parents of three children. George and Virginia continued to raise their family in Elsinore and together had one more child. Virginia passed away on November 5, 1997. George married Shirley Forsyth Coleman on December 1, 1998, in the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple. Shirley was married to John Kell Coleman. He preceded her in death. They are the parents of five children. Shirley passed away on July 30, 2010.

George was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishop of the Elsinore Ward and in many leadership positions in the ward and stake. George and Virginia served in the Manti Temple and also as missionaries at Cove Fort.

George spent his life as a farmer and loved working with his family on his farm. In 1960, he went to work for the Department of Agriculture serving as office manager in Richfield and later as district director for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service until he retired in 1986. He also served as the mayor of Elsinore from 1990-1994.

George is survived by his children: Laura Ann (Don) Blanchard, Lehi; Donald (Erlene) Anderson, Cedar City; James (Loralie) Cuff, Las Vegas; Jane (Boyd) Gourley, South Jordan; Camille (Randy) Simonsen, St. George; Janet (Wayne) Fillmore, Richfield; Joyce (Brent) Cottle, Logan; Douglas (Lorraine) Anderson, South Jordan; Dean (Becky) Anderson, Provo; Margaret (David) Christiansen, Orem; 51 grandchildren, 100 great grandchildren and two more on way.

George was preceded in death by his wives, parents, great-grandchildren: Emerson J. Cuff, Brigham J. Karren; brothers and sisters: Wendell (Beth) Anderson; Anna Mary Anderson; Paul Anderson; Ralph (Dantzel) Anderson; Ethel (Arnel) Dastrup, Aleene (Lynn) Oldroyd; and Betty (Dale) Waters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Elsinore Ward chapel. Friends and family may visit at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield, 50 S 100 W, on Friday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at the church in Elsinore from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Elsinore Cemetery with military honors by the Elsinore American Legion Post #75 and Utah Honor Guard.
