Gaye DeSpain
Monroe, Utah
Our beloved mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, Gaye Meacham DeSpain, passed away in Monroe, Utah on January 24, 2021. She was born February 4, 1932 to Samuel L. and Edna Talbot Meacham in Richfield, Utah. She married James Rulon DeSpain December 11, 1953. The marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2013.
Gaye was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings including president of the Relief Society, Young Women, Primary and 21 years in scouting. She and her husband worked at the Manti Temple which they really enjoyed. Our mother was a blessing to this world for her service to others. Even in her last days she was asking how she could help. She also worked in schools and served as an inspector for voting.
Her family was her priority and had a fierce love for them that had no limits, Gaye had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories of her and her faithful steed “Old Mag” and their adventures all over Monroe mountain. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children: Debra (Pat) Cleer, Kevin (Lisa) DeSpain, Michele (Tom) Petty and Michael (Julianne) DeSpain, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Larna Soderquist and Karen Drager.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; and her brothers, Golden, Levar, Layne, Devern and Jack.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Venice Cemetery. Visitation will be limited to immediate family members at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield. Due to COVID-19, all attendees are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Online guestbook can be found at www.maglebymortuary.com under Gaye’s obituary.
