Gaydra Marie Wescott Laub passed away December 29, 2023 in Ogden, Utah at almost 94 years old. Gaydra was born in Richfield on March 2, 1930 to Earl Herbert Wescott and Ireta Marie Hansen Wescott.
In her younger years, she loved to read and would often stop at the library on her way home from school and get a new book where she would climb the big tree across from her grandparents home and read. In her teen years, she lived with her mother in St. George and attended high school. She played the saxophone and when she was 16, her mother bought her a 1930 Model A Ford with a rumble seat. She loved driving around town with her girlfriends and we loved hearing of all her adventures and fun.
She met the love of her life, Val R. Laub at Dixie College and was married on March 31, 1948. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple. Her children meant the world to her as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She loved to tell everyone about them. All of them were very close to her and spent a lot of time together going on vacations, rides, lunches, and dinners, playing games, doing puzzles, and watching the Utah Jazz games either in person or on the TV.
She was very active throughout her entire life. She loved playing golf and always hit the ball straight down the middle. She could keep up with all her family including sinking the basketball at her 92nd birthday party! She loved camping with her family and even played some pickleball.
She worked at Hill Air Force Base as the Branch Secretary for 13 years. Due to her professionalism and perfection, she often retyped letters that came to her that she proofread as she always wanted a perfect product leaving her office. She received many Zero-Defect Awards from HAFB.
Gaydra and Val loved dancing together. They ballroom danced as well as square danced for many years. Her favorites were the Waltz, the Fox-Trot and the Two-Step. They loved their cabin at Star Valley Wyoming that they built, golfing with friends and family. On weekends, attending dances in the barn together.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many callings.
Gaydra will always be remembered for her great love of family, for her sense of humor, adventurous spirit, quick wit, being spunky and having fun to the end.
She is survived by her children: Sandra (Dale) Boyle, Don (Kathy) Laub, Dave (Kris) Laub, Darrel (Mary) Laub, Doug (Joy) Laub, and Cheryl (Mike) Arrant; son-in-law, Keith Pike. And as she told everyone, I have 7 children, 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Val; mother, Ireta; brother, Charles Robert; daughter, Louise Pike; and granddaughter, Melissa Laub Brown.
A graveside service will be held in her honor on January 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Richfield City Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
