Garrett Nielson

West Jordan, Utah

Our sweet son, brother, and friend, Garrett Glen Nielson, 17, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 2, 2013. Garrett was born October 23, 1995, in Cedar City, the first child of Eric Bruce and Meagan Lane Peck Nielson.

Garrett was the quintessential first child. He excelled at everything he did and was a great older brother to his younger siblings. He was thoughtful and tender-hearted. He was a "champion of the underdog," and made connections with people of all ages and backgrounds. He was fiercely loyal and never betrayed a friend. Garrett loved music, was an avid reader, enjoyed wake-boarding and snowboarding, and having fun with his friends.

Garrett was an accomplished young man, very intelligent, and always bringing home straight A report cards. He was incredibly reliable, always willing to help, and worked hard until the job was done. He was active on the Bingham High School track team and loved to compete. He was an Eagle Scout and currently a priest in the Aaronic Priesthood of the LDS Church. Garrett had a strong and ongoing testimony of the Gospel and was anxiously waiting his 18 th birthday so he could serve a mission. His desire was ultimately to attend medical school at Columbia University.

We love you Garrett, and we will miss you more than words can express. We look forward to the day when we can meet again.

Garrett is survived by his parents; sister, Marti; brother, Quinn; and his grandparents, Bruce and Janene Nielson. His Grandma Loretta was waiting with open arms for him on the other side. It’s comforting to know that Garrett’s beloved dog, Cooper, is with him as well.
