Garneal Porter Smith, 79, of Escalante, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the long-term care center of Garfield Memorial Hospital. She was born March 16, 1935 in Escalante to Clayton and Iris Schow Porter. She married Jed Earl Smith, October 8, 1954 in Fredonia, Arizona. The marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple, October 6, 1995. He preceded her in death, February 16, 1997.
Garneal grew up in Escalante and graduated from Escalante High School in 1953. After high school, she worked at the Grand Canyon where she met Jed, the great love of her life.
Garneal took great pride in caring for her home and family. She loved doing crafts and especially enjoyed camping with her family.
She is survived by her son and daughters: Dane (Sharon) Smith, Firestone, CO; Vida (Dee) Frost, Monticello; Tina (Ron) Fuller, Ainsworth, NE; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother: Weldon (Marie) Porter, Escalante.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Doren Smith; and 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Leon.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Escalante 2 nd Ward Chapel where friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Escalante Cemetery.
