Fred Dean Mortensen, 75, passed away peacefully July 8, 2014 surrounded by his family at his home in South Jordan. He was born July 17, 1938 in Monroe, Utah to Vern and Norma Swindle Mortensen. After his mother’s passing, his father married Melba Erickson who raised Fred as her own. He married Sylvia Hortin May 8, 1971.

Fred was a loving caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. Fred attended Utah State University and served in the United States Army. He was successful in all his business ventures. He was partner of Utelite Corporation and Western Clay Company.

Survived by his wife, Sylvia; children: Tawnie Sorensen, Matthew Mortensen; grandchildren: Avery, Halie, Tucker; brother Vernal (Anora) Mortensen.

Proceeded in death by parents; daughter, Tobie Dee Mortensen; brother, Neal Mortensen; sisters: Barbara Morrey and Dorothy Peterson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, 50 South 100 West, Richfield. Friends may call Saturday, July12 at the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (106th South),  in South Jordan from 6-8pm. Also, Sunday at the Magleby Mortuary from 6-8pm. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery with military rites by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and Utah Honor Guard.
