Floyd David Richards, 81, Tropic, passed away July 5, 2011. He was born September 27, 1929, in Tropic to Thomas E. and Blanche Ott Richards. He married Alaska Smith, December 15, 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple.
Dad was an avid rancher, horseman and outdoors man. He worked as a construction supervisor and heavy equipment operator for 30 years, and as a national park service employee before retiring. Dad loved the outdoors either working by operating heavy equipment, running cattle with his children and grandchildren, and having cookouts with his family
Survived by his wife of 61 years; children: Gregory Floyd Richards, Tropic; Thomas Kevin (Melody) Richards, Tropic; NaKole (Ricky) Crofts, Orderville; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters: Helma Haws, Tropic; Elaine (Donald) Henderson, St. George; Kathleen Shumway, California.
Preceded in death by parents; daughter-in-law, Paula Shafer Richards; brother, Nyle Richards; sisters, Norma Dalley, Maxine Crosby, Arvine Sheets.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Tropic LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Henrieville Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
