Ewald Erichsen

Manti, Utah

Ewald Gerhard Erichsen, 79, passed away at his home in Manti on July 14, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

Ewald was born on August 20, 1935 in Hamburg, Germany to Ludwig Adoph Peter Erichsen and Emilie Sophia Frieda Wehrhahan. Ewald spent his years as a child growing up in war-torn Germany with his brothers and sisters. It was a terrible time to be living, hopping on the train to get food, hoping to throw enough potatoes off to help feed his hungry family. He experienced all this at the age of 10 years old. He immigrated to Utah, May 9, 1955 from Germany with his parents, younger brothers and sisters. Ewald became an American citizen on March 20, 1970.

Ewald became a very skilled heavy equipment operator and worked in the construction industry for the majority of his working career. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Working in Murray, Utah he met the girl he was to marry, Gail Lee Anderson. They were married on September 27, 1957 and later solemnized their marriage in the Manti Temple on March 5, 2005. Ewald and Gail settled in Midvale, where they raised 3 children: James Erichsen, Manti; Lisa (Ren) Petersen, Ephraim; and Heidi Christina Erichsen (deceased). He is also survived by grandchildren: Brittany Gail Zitting, Michael Zitting Petersen, Deziree Rachel Jensen, Raine Petersen and Lott Petersen; great-grandchildren: Gage Ewald Devers, Tyson Paul Devers and Leif Jerrery Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Heidi; brothers: Ludwig, Konard, Helmut, Fritz, Wilford; sisters: Lutzi and Ruth.

Graveside services were held on July 20, 2015 at the Manti City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
