Evalyn Roe
Panguitch, Utah
Evalyn Marshall Roe passed away in her home in Panguitch, Thursday December 19, 2013, with two of her daughters by her side. On January 30, 2014 Evalyn would have turned 90.
She was born January 30, 1924 to Wilford Earl and Eva Daly Marshall in an apartment connected to the back of Panguitch Drug in Panguitch, Utah. Her father was the Pharmacist in Panguitch and owned the drug store. She is the fourth of seven children, with brothers: Tom, Monte, Joe and Don; and sisters: Mildred and Barbara.
As a young girl, she enjoyed band, singing with groups, dancing, and marching with the Drum and Bugle Corps where she played the drum. After graduating from Panguitch High School in 1942, she left Panguitch to attend one quarter of school at Carbon College in Price while waiting to get into nursing school at LDS Hospital School of Nursing. Upon completion of her nursing degree she worked for six months as an RN with the Navy Hospital in Seattle until the war ended.
When she returned to Panguitch, Evalyn married W. Earl Roe Febraury 28, 1946, the best friend of her older brother Monte, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised six children in the home that Earl and his father, Wilford Roe built. There were three boys: Russell, Ronald, and Douglas; and then three girls: Barbara, Beverly and Deanna. Ronald preceded his parents in death in 1972.
When the last child entered grade school, Evalyn went back to work part time at Garfield Memorial Hospital. But she preferred staying at home and being surrounded by her family. She retired from nursing in 1982. She loved dancing and would dance with whomver would dance with her. She and her beloved husband, Earl, often taught dance classes to young men and women.
Evalyn held many church callings in the LDS Church over the years such as Primary and Sunday School teacher, compassionate service leader, a counselor in Primary, MIA and Relief Society president. She enjoyed attending the temple and was active in the church throughout her life.
Evalyn was very active in her earlier years in several service clubs such as Homemakers, Lady Lions, and DUP. Evalyn especially enjoyed playing the Kazoo and tambourine with the all famous Panguitch Rhythm Band. Some of her favorite hobbies were cooking and baking, especially desserts. She also loved to sew, make quilts and crochet afghans. And like most grandmothers, she would always take the opportunity to enjoy time with her grandchildren. She could always be found offering service to her family and others.
She is survived by children: Russell (Debbra) Roe, Papillion, NE; Douglas (Donna) Roe, St. George; Barbara (Brent) Lewis, Cedar City; Beverly (Pete) Peterson, Panaca, NV; and Deanna (Kevin) Moore, Panguitch; 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; siblings: Barbara Willis, Orem; and Donald (Jean) Marshall, Provo.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Ronald; daughter-in-law Necia; four of her siblings.
