Euhlan G. Smith, 93, died Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Stonehenge Nursing Home in Richfield, Utah of complications of Congestive Heart Failure.

Born July 8, 1923 in Bado, Missouri to Ewing Lee, Sr. and Dessie Mae Amick Smith. Euhlan was raised in Missouri and Wyoming, He married Naomi Ruth Lilly in 1949. She preceded him in death in 1981. In 1955 he moved to Bakersfield, California where he resided until 1985. He married Mavis Brinkerhoff on April 26, 1985 in Las Vegas and they resided in Las Vegas, Nevada until moving to Elsinore Utah in 1999.

Euhlan was a veteran of WWII and served in the Navy aboard the USS Daniel T. Griffin as a Quartermaster 3rd Class. He worked as a mechanic, a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Missouri, a roughneck in the oilfields, and as a member of the Operating Engineers.

He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1979 and subsequently served in the Philippines Baguio City Mission and the Lithuania Vilnius Mission. He also worked as an ordinance worker in the Las Vegas and Manti Temples.

He leaves behind his wife, Mavis, of 32 years; children: Mary Ruth Stevens and L. Joe Smith; step-children: Kathy I. Pearson, Terry W. Brinkerhoff, and Paul A. Brinkerhoff; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; daughter, Anita Kay Smith; son, Gary Collier Steffens; siblings: Ewing Lee Smith, Euleen Smith Walker, Eugenia Smith Carter, and Joan Smith Hutcheson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Elsinore Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Burial will be Friday, at 9:00 a.m., June 16, in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield, CA.
