Esther Madsen Ogden, age 99, peacefully passed away at her home in Richfield, Utah on May 16, 2012 of causes incident to age—15 days shy of her 100th  birthday. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, May 31, 1912, the daughter of William Lars and Karen Marie Petersen Madsen.  She was educated in the Mt. Pleasant schools and graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1931.  She then attended and graduated from Snow College.
Esther married Verl Chidester Ogden in the Manti Temple on April 8, 1937 and they have made their home in Richfield ever since.  They raised six children, Robert (Roxana), Cedar Hills; Lola Speckart (Philip), Holladay; Lynn (Laurel), Provo; Wayne (Carren), Richfield; Bart (Cheryl), Magna; and Joyce Petrucci (Brad), Sandy.
Throughout her life, Esther served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was a talented singer and pianist and was generous in sharing her talents with others.  She especially enjoyed performing with Florence Anderson and her “girls” as they entertained audiences throughout Sevier Valley.  She was a member of Camp Eutaw, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.  She and Verl served for a number of years as reading volunteers at Ashman Elementary. They served together in the Mississippi Jackson Mission from 1979 to 1981.  Following their mission, they gave 20 years of service in the Richfield Family History Center.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, two daughters, 27 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bart; a brother, Lloyd; sisters Ruth Neilsen and Helen Bunnell; a foster brother, LaVar Petersen; and a great-grandson, Austin Thomas Ogden.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Richfield 4th Ward, 159 North 400 West.  Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Magleby Mortuary, 50 South 100 West, Richfield; and again Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Richfield Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so are invited to make a donation to the LDS Church Temple Construction Fund.
