Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Elwood Vest Eddy, passed away at his home in Manti, Utah on May 24, 2014 with his loving wife Louise, and their children by his side.
Elwood was born on October 31, 1930 in Ogden, Weber, Utah, to Christiaan and Mildred Vest Eddy.
In 1947, at the age of 17, he served in the United States Navy, and on his second tour of duty he served in the Air Force where he flew all over the world in a PBM plane. At the age of 24, Elwood served an LDS mission to South Africa.
In 1957, while working and skiing at Sun Valley, Idaho, he met and fell in love with his one and only sweetheart, Louise Anne Peters. On their first several dates Elwood introduced and taught Louise about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Louise joined the church shortly after they where married in Kaneville, Utah and a year later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
As a member of the Church he enjoyed serving in many capacities including gospel doctrine teacher in many wards, a member of the bishopric and the scouting program.
Elwood’s greatest passion in life was reading the scriptures. He was a life-long avid scriptorian. He faithfully read and pondered the scriptures every day. Through the years Elwood enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, photography, genealogy and food storage preparedness. His favorite pass times were going shooting with his children and grandchildren and reading the scriptures.
Survived by his spouse, Louise Anne Peters, children: Kimberly (Rick) Simons, Manti, UT; Elwood (Angela) Eddy, Spanish Fork, UT; William (Laurie) Eddy, Tropic, UT; Linda (Douglas) Blake, Manti, UT; Jane (Dix) Densley, Portland, OR; Nanette (David) Cobbley, Forest Grove, OR; Helen Eddy, Spring Park, MN; Nephi (Sabona) Eddy, Manti, UT; Ruth (Justin) Filley, Queen Creek, AZ; thirty-three grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. Siblings, Jake (Mary) Eddy, Max (Beverly) Eddy, Ann (Joseph) Jenson, Mark Eddy and sister-in-law, Joyce Eddy.
Elwood was preceded in death by his great grandson Maky Oldham, parents, and brothers Gary and Chris Eddy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manti (Red) Church. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Manti City Cemetery with Military Honors by the Manti American Legion Post #31. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
