Ellen M.Kenney Hansen, 72, died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 due to complications of Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease. She passed away peacefully at home in Richfield, after many months of being cared for by her loving husband. She was born September 2, 1941 in Salt Lake City, to Delmar and Maxine Lee Kenney. She married Robert Hansen September 1, 1989 in Salt Lake City.
Ellen worked for many years at ZCMI/Macy’s as a model and sales clerk. She loved talking to people and they loved her. She was lucky enough to have a career where she could do what she loved, which was working with people and getting to know all about them. She loved taking care of people and animals, which meant retiring and moving away from her family in Salt Lake City to Richfield so that she could help her husband take care of his aging parents. She loved taking her mother-in-law on car rides around the surrounding area where on one occasion they happened upon an emu out in a farmer’s pasture. She returned time and time again to feed her new friend which she named "bird". Her love for animals also brought three rescue cats into her life which she adopted. She loved and cared for them as if they were her own children. However her most treasured times were holidays, weekends, or any occasion she could be with family.
Ellen’s children are forever thankful for the devoted, loving, tender care that Robert "Dad" has shown their mom for the past 30 years and up until her last moments. She was not only the love of his life, but her children and their families were treated as his own. The family would also like to thank hospice for helping Dad to care for their mom in her home, where she wanted to be.
Ellen leaves behind her husband Robert Hansen, whom she loved with every fiber of her being; adoring children: Bill (Vickie) McCarty, Ronald (Tiffany) McCarty, Lisa (Andy) Knudsen, Daniel (Destiny) McCoy, Catherine (Jeremy) Jeffs; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers: Elden Kenney (twin), Bruce Kenney, Gary Kenney, Randy Kenney, Robert Martin; and sisters: Dorothy Benzon and Catherine Terflinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leroy Kenney, and grandbaby, Angel.
