Ellen May Adams Franson, 91, of Richfield, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 in American Fork. She was born May 8, 1923 in Yermo, California to James Leslie and Florence Wilde Adams. She grew up on the Orem bench near where the campus of Utah Valley University is located.
Ellen married Max William Franson, May 17, 1947 in Orem. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple, January 16, 1963, he preceded her in death March 12, 2000.
She made Richfield her home for 58 years, except for a few winters "snow birding" with Max in Arizona or El Centro, CA.
Her decades of service to the Boy Scouts of America resulted in her being given the Silver Beaver Award. She served as a den leader, blazer leader, Fishlake District Advancement committee and spent many hours helping boys in the scouting program. Many young men were encouraged and tutored toward their Eagle Scout rank by Ellen.
Ellen volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at each of the various Richfield hospitals from 1963 to 2013. Over the decades, hundreds of babies born in December were sent home in the large Christmas stocking she had made.
She loved to work in her yard and garden where weeds were always "public enemy number one."
Ellen is survived by sons, Jay (Gwyn), Robert (JaNeel), Rex (Mary Ann); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Arlene, Gwen and brothers, Charles and Michael.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Max; parents; sisters, Betty, Shirlee, Nadene, Bertien and brother, Raymond.
