The Best Dad, Grandpa & Great-Grandpa Ever
Eldred Verl Peterson, 96, passed away October 22, 2013 in the comfort of his own home in Richfield. He was born May 1, 1917 in Richfield, to Joseph Morten and Nelda Marie Busk Peterson, the eighth child and sixth son of 13 children.
Eldred attended Richfield High School where he excelled in football, basketball and track. He served his country in the National Guard for 3½ years and in the United States Army during WWII as a military policeman for an additional 3½ years.
Eldred married Georgia Christensen January 31, 1942 in Central Valley. Their marriage was solemnized July 20, 1957 in the Manti LDS Temple. She preceded him in death July 22, 2007.
Eldred worked in the auto parts sales for Pearson's, Richfield Auto Parts, and Whiting Motor until his retirement. He loved spending time in the outdoors with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, a master gardener, and a talented craftsman. By his example he taught us all the value of hard work, frugal living and selfless service. He has filled our lives with love, kindness, integrity, and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his children: Joe V. (Jolene) Peterson; Chris J. Peterson, all of Richfield; Karen (Terry) Fredrickson, Syracuse; Roger L. (Joan) Peterson, Roy; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by parents; daughter-in-law, Lorie; and all of his siblings: Orean Peterson, Neola Christensen, Ruby Peterson, Reed Peterson, Marian Peterson, Leland Peterson, Zell Peterson, Max Peterson, Ehrmel Peterson, Sylvan Peterson, Verlene Wrigley, and Neldon Peterson, along with their spouses; and Georgia’s sisters: Berneice Anderson, June Christensen and their spouses.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Richfield 15 th Ward Chapel, 210 East Center Street where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Richfield Cemetery with military rites by the V. F. W. Post #5050. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
