Mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Alta Elaine Nicholls Reid, peacefully left her earthly existence on the early morning of Thanksgiving day, Thursday, November 26, 2015, in Ephraim, at the age of 88. Elaine was the first daughter born to Elmer and Alta Nicholls on October 7, 1927 in Ephraim, Utah. She married Newell C. Reid, May 21, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Three children blessed this union: Karen, Terry and Barbara Jo.

Elaine graduated from Utah State University with a degree in education, and taught school for 33 years in Fillmore and Ephraim. Being very active in both her church and city government, Mom did graduate research on ways to integrate women into U.S. history, served on the Ephraim City Council twice and was on the cemetery board for more than 20 years. She served as the stake and regional single adult director, and taught for many years in various callings in the church. She served an LDS mission to England and was an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple for 15 years.

She is survived by her two children: Terry Reid, Barbara Jo (Jerry) Jensen; 13 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Elga Nicholls, Loraine Reid.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Karen; brothers: Clair, Erick, Morris; sisters: Helen, JoAnn, Mary Lee.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ephraim 6 th Ward, 765 South 100 East where friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Ephraim Park Cemetery.
