Ed Patterson
Richfield, Utah
Edwin Clark Patterson, 75, passed away February 18, 2015 in Richfield after a difficult but inspiring journey with cancer. He was born January 7, 1940, in Joseph, Utah, as the 3rd of six children and oldest son of Aubra Clark and Veone Christensen Patterson.
Ed was born on the family farm in Joseph. He was called Sonny by his family, Ed by his friends, and Pat by his military brothers.
Ed graduated from South Sevier High School in 1958. He enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard, then active duty Air Force where he was stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War. He later re-enlisted in the National Guard and received honorable discharges from both branches.
Ed spent his life working construction and farming. He was a master irrigator and spent the last twenty years working for Fullmer Farms irrigating their south Richfield farm. He went to great effort to really learn the ground so he could water it well, despite the gophers. To the end he was concerned about the cows and who would irrigate this spring.
Ed was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His final services will be in the church he attended most of his life and where he was once the custodian. He took a lot of pride in putting a perfect varnish on the gym floor and keeping the old boiler system running.
Ed married Carolyn Shirley Christiansen (deceased) in the Manti Temple in August of 1964, they later divorced. Together they are the parents of six children: Leslie Clark (Elisa) Patterson, Kristina Carol (Fadi) Sakkijha, Robert Edwin Patterson, Shane Tyler Patterson, Marc Andrew (Randie) Patterson, and Rachael Marie Patterson. He was a proud grandfather of nine: Cody, Clinton, Brenin, Rebecca, Leslie, Tyann, Hana, Laith, and Nixon. He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley (Stu) Studebaker, Darlene Peterson, Gordon Kay Patterson, Julia (Norman) Mayhew, and Lea (Randy) Peterson; brother-in-law, Alf Sharp; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law: Emerson "Red" McNallie and Richard "Dick" Peterson; and sister-in-law Barbara Patterson.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Jeff Brown, Dr. Craig Donaldson, Dr. Leslye Ingersoll, RN Tonya Coats, and the caring and loving staff at Stonehenge of Richfield.
