Edward Munger
Gunnison, Utah
Edward Stephen Munger, 76, known by family and friends as Ed, Eddie, or Eddie Blue Eyes, passed away at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, on August 15, 2014 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Ed was born March 11, 1938 in San Francisco, CA to Merrick Edward and Lois Lydia Baker Munger. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ed was always one who enjoyed learning and doing new things. After he completed his military service in California he found work for a printing company in Seattle, WA where he worked his way up from delivery driver to foreman. During this time he met a lovely woman, Janeth Maxine Hibben and they were wed December 3, 1965 in Seattle, WA. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on August 2, 2012.
During a family vacation to Gunnison, he decided he had to live where the sun shined! So off to God’s County they went and to moved Gunnison. Here, he thought he should try to fit into the country life and learned to ride/drive (and eventually owned) horses and diesels. Through the years he owned and operated three diesel trucks that were used to pull flat bed trailers and even more horses. He put over a million miles on each diesel truck with no accidents. Then after more than 30 years driving he decided enough was enough and retired. Retirement was wonderful; he was able to spend time playing his bagpipes in bands and for parties, parades, funerals, or with friends.
Ed was always artistic and retirement gave him the opportunity to develop his painting talents. There are many of his paintings that can be found in his home and around the community.
Ed was a strong man who had survived heart and cancer surgeries without complaining, knowing there was something greater waiting for him to learn and do. He felt this was his temple calling. He truly loved serving the Lord and working with so many wonderful people he quickly came to call friends. Ed will greatly be missed by his family and friends.
Ed leaves behind his loving wife, Janeth; children: Jerry Dale Jackson and Marie Louise (Lynn Dale) Mortensen, all of Gunnison; grandchildren: Zachary Edward, Kellee Marie, Jadre Diane, and Paydenne Leigh Mortensen; brother, Lawrence (Kae) Munger, Salt Lake City; and sisters: Berti Jensen, Merretta (Revier) Palmer, both from California.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Ann Jackson; and sister, Geraldine (Harlan) McLain; brother-in-law, Gordon Jensen.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Gunnison 5 th Ward Chapel, 210 South Main in Centerfield where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery with military rites by Gunnison American Legion Post #104 and the Utah Honor Guard.
