Duane Allen Gardner died on May 4, 2018 in El Paso Texas. He was born on August 6, 1933 in Ely, Nevada to Neil and Emma Kogan Gardner. He grew up during the depression on different ranches in Nevada. Duane had 4 big brothers, 1 big sister and 3 little sisters: Neil (Virginia), Mac (Vivian), Hilton (Shirley), Ted (Joyce), and Ellen (Roy). He is survived by his three younger sisters: Colleen (Monte) Bloemke, Mattie Jean (Alvin) Kilmer and Fayleen (Ronald) Ivins.
In 8th grade his family moved to Lund, NV to attend high school. In Lund he met his high school sweetheart, Vesta Helen Gardner and on December 19, 1952 they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They had 9 daughters and 2 sons: Cherie (Stan) Rawlings, Aaron (Kimberley) Gardner, Karen (Dirk) Cline, Alaine (Paul) Bracken, Janelle (Don) Grantham, Lori Ann Gardner, Denelle (Bob) Bledsoe, Alice (Dale) Meredith, Bobi (Ben) Gehret, Tawnya Wood, and Abe (Merivale) Gardner.
Duane and Vesta lived in Provo, UT, Lund, NV, Scottsdale and Mesa, AZ, Salt Lake City, and Park City, UT.
He married Constance Christofferson in 1985 and added DeDe (Sean) McCall, another precious daughter. They lived in Eden, ID, Santaquin, Ivins and Manti, UT. To their large family they have welcomed 61 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way.
Preceding him in death were his parents; both wives; older siblings and 3 grandchildren: Jesse and Krystal Grantham and Mason McCall; and 1 great-granddaughter, Hannah Marie Clements.
Duane loved sharing his testimony of Jesus Christ and His Atonement with family and friends. Life experiences taught him how precious his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was to him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 19, 2018 at 3:00 pm in the Manti Tabernacle. At Duane’s request there will be no public viewing. Duane’s body will be carried by mule team and wagon to the Manti Cemetery for graveside services. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
