Douglas Eugene Squire, born April 1, 1949, in Manti, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, and veteran, his life radiated love, loyalty, and hard work. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Gonzales, on May 21, 1971. Their enduring love story spanned over five decades.
Doug is survived by his children: Tricia and Lynn Hansen, Laurie and Scott Wilkinson, Ronnie Squire, Paul and Erika Squire; and his nine beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Morris and Beverly Squire of Manti, and his second parents, Ernest and Ernestina Gonzales of Ephraim.
After graduating from Manti High School, Doug’s patriotism led him to serve in the army, stationed near Korea’s DMZ during the Vietnam War. He was later sent to Honduras where he built roads and schools as part of an engineering company. His last assignment was in Germany as Company Commander during Operation Desert Storm.
Doug worked for the US Postal Service in Ephraim for many years. He loved working with the community and he enjoyed his daily motorcycle rides to and from work. He retired from the Ephraim Post Office in 2002.
He was a man of many hobbies, all of which reflected his love for nature and hands-on creativity. Doug found joy in tending to his yard, gardening, carpentry, raising animals, vacationing, and camping. His cherished pastimes included time spent with friends and family, and rides in the mountains in his bright yellow Willy’s jeep.
Cremation to be held in the Magleby Mortuary Cremation Center. A memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Red church located on 300 S Main Street in Manti. Doug will be laid to rest, with full military honors, in Manti Cemetery, during a semi-private family service on his birthday on April 1st. Community flowers orders will be prepared for the graveside service.
