Douglas Haycock
Las Vegas, Nevada
Douglas Griffin Haycock returned home to our Heavenly Father on May 29, 2022. He was born on January 19, 1938, in Escalante, Utah, to Stanley and Neta Haycock.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gordon, infant sister Beth, and his grandson Rich.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Thomson; children: Natalie Mallory, Shane Haycock (Amelia), Kimberlie Fisher, Brook Flygare (Brady), and Kellie Mohler (Stephen). He was also survived by his brother Woodrow Haycock (Lynette); and sisters: Dawneta Dunham, and Janice Reardon (Jack). He was proud to be grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Doug and Barbara were married on November 8, 1962, and sealed in the Manti Temple on March 22, 1975.
Doug was a civil engineer and worked for the Utah Department of Transportation, Nevada Rock and Sand, Central Grading, and Meadow Valley. In 2005, Doug and Barbara served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sharon, Vermont, the birthplace of Joseph Smith. Doug also served his country in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper.
Doug held multiple Church callings, but his passion was working with youth, ranging from coaching, scouting and leadership positions. Those who knew him treasured his strength, integrity, ability to tell a story, love of the great outdoors, where to go deer hunting, and how to clean a fish properly. He spent many hours doing woodworking, genealogy and leatherwork. He will be a forever fan of the UNLV Jerry Tarkanian era of basketball.
