On August 9, 2024, Douglas John Bettfreund, 59, was lovingly called home by our Heavenly Father, at his home in Elsinore. Born on June 11, 1965, in Van Nuys, California, to John Wayne Bettfreund and Miriam Ruth Higginbotham. 

Doug spent his early years in Monroe. He attended South Sevier High School before proudly serving in the US Army, as a member of the esteemed 82nd Airborne Division. In 2008, he completed a tour in Afghanistan, earning the admiration and respect of the young soldiers under his guidance.

 Doug's life was enriched by two marriages, from which he was blessed with seven children, each of whom he was so proud of and loved deeply. 

 An avid outdoorsman, Doug found joy in the simplicity and serenity of nature. His love for fishing and hunting was a constant throughout his life.

 He is survived by his children: Malerie, Kurt, Katlynn, Alexis (Ryan), Walker, Kameron, and Kyle; his grandchildren: Quinn, Isabelle, Charlotte, and Atlas. Doug is also remembered by his brothers, John, Robert, and Thomas; sister, Loralynn. Additionally, he leaves behind many young men who regarded him as a father figure, particularly Shane, whom he loved as a son. 

 He is preceded in death by his mother and father.

 Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Elsinore Ward. Viewing at the church from 11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. Cremation to follow at the Magleby Mortuary and Cremation Center. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
