Donald Ray Ramsey, affectionately known as “Toby from the gas company” was born May 16, 1950 in Georgetown, TX. He went home to his Savior on February 9, 2023 surrounded by the comfort of loved ones at his home in Monroe.
When Don was a young buck, he met the love of his life, Kathleen Blackburn, whom he adored more than anything. He spent many years working for Questar Gas to provide for his family before he retired. He enjoyed time with family and making memories. For so many years he shared his various hobbies with us, such as hunting, fishing, painting and gardening.
To say he was an obsessive hunter would not be an exaggeration. If he could help it, he would never miss an opportunity to hunt with loved ones. He appreciated nature and was always very proud of the trophies that he and his family collected, big or small. One of his favorite things to do was reminisce and tell stories of past hunts and adventures with old friends or co-workers. He always had something sassy to say and loved to make us either laugh or blush with his stories, songs, or jokes.
He sure had a green thumb and would grow a big enough garden each year to share with family and to keep up with his darling Kathy and her love of canning. There was no denying that he cherished his time spent in the sanctuary of his back yard with Kathy and their dogs, birds and deer.
He would periodically give his paintings away, which we will hold dear and pass on through future generations. His artwork is and always will be proudly on display in a lot of our homes.
Over the course of 18 years, Donald and Kathy opened their home to 191 foster and shelter children while raising their own.  He was also an important father figure to many of his children’s friends growing up and even now, in adulthood. He made sure they all have plenty of precious memories to share, stories for years to come. He was a prime example of a father, as he always knew that time and memories are some of the most important things in life.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; sons: Mark (Mary Jane), Timothy (Katie), Scott (Trista); daughter, Jamie; grandchildren: Sarah, Alexis, Chase, Dylan, Noah (Madison), Isaac, Connor, Jesse, Charles, Sophia; great-grandson, Aiden, and another great-grandbaby on the way; his beloved sister-in-law, Connie; and the “favorite brother”, Mighty Mouse.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, David Ryan Ramsey; and his beloved, Gunther.
We would like to thank the Hospice Team and a special thanks to JayCee, Doreen, Charlie and Doug.
