Lloyd Donald Stott, 94, of Manti, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died March 14, 2019 in South Jordan, Utah of causes incident to age.
He was born June 5, 1924 in Manti, Utah to James William and Della Alberta Cunningham Stott. He graduated in 1942 from Manti High School. On October 30, 1943 he married LaNeice Peterson of Gunnison, Utah; marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an Army veteran of World War II, enlisting in the fall of 1944; he served in the Philippines with A Battery, 63rd Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Division (known at the Pineapple Division). At the end of the War, he went to Japan as part of the Occupation Forces and was discharged in October 1946.
After returning home, he attended and graduated from the Salt Lake Barber College, returning to Manti to open his barber shop. In 1972 he took a job with the US Postal Service, closing the Main Street shop and moving it to the basement of his home. Throughout his life, Don was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities, including ward clerk, bishop, high councilman, and temple worker. In 1990-91, he and LaNeice served an 18-month mission in the New Zealand Temple.
He also supported his community. He was a member of the Jaycees and was named Outstanding Man of the Year; member of the Lions Club; and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Manti Volunteer Fire Dept. and served many years as fire chief.
Don & LaNeice traveled extensively in the US and several foreign countries. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, especially the annual deer hunt with his sons, brothers and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, LaNeice; daughter, Debbie (Patrick) Glazier, Henderson, NV; son, Hal Clyde (Mitzi) Stott, West Jordan, UT; 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leon, Eldon, Ben, Girven, Laural, Gail and sister, Vonda Bogh; sons, David Lester and Norman Don; and granddaughter, Shannon Dawn Glazier. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 12:00 Noon in the Manti 3rd Ward Chapel, 555 East Union. A viewing will be held prior to services from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Manti City Cemetery with military honors. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
