Don LaMar Christensen, 92, passed away on January 11, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Don was born April 18, 1921 in Ephraim to Newel Erick and Sena Marcella Jensen Christensen. Don married his teenage sweetheart Una Gwen Christensen on November 5, 1942 in the Manti LDS Temple. She preceded him in death, March 20, 2012.
Don was a farmer, cattleman and owner of Christensen Meats. He was a World War II veteran serving in the 398th Army Service Band in the South Pacific. He was present during the battle of Luzon. Don was involved in his community serving on the ASCS committee, president of several irrigation companies, worked on the Gooseberry water project, member of the Cattlemen’s Association, also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many capacities.
Don was a family man. He knew what his real treasures were: his wife, children and grandchildren-- his life centered around them. In Don’s eyes they were perfect. He was a kind, gentle, peaceful man who touched the lives of everyone around him. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. If we had only one word to describe the core of who Don was it would be "love".
Don is survived by his children: Karl Don (Carolyn) Christensen, Ephraim; Amy Sharon "Sherrie" (Ronald) Larsen, St. George; Diane (Craig) Oberg, Ephraim; Julie (Karl) Lund, Ephraim; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Nielson; in- laws: Gweneth Christensen, Joseph Gordon (Marcia) Christensen; and Mary Amelia Jorgensen.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cortney Don Oberg; brothers: Moyle Christensen; Melvin Christensen; in-laws:Dale Nielson; Zella Rae (Lee) Barton, Richard (Beulah) Christensen, Vern Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 12:00 Noon in the Ephraim 6th Ward Chapel, 751 South 100 East, where friends may call Tuesday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:30 – 11:30 am. Burial will be in the Ephraim Park Cemetery with military rites by the Manti American Legion Post #31. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
