Dolores Egbert Rider, 91, passed away July 24, 2020 in Richfield, Utah. Dolores was born May 19, 1929, in Salt Lake City, to Harold Allen and Adeline Riggs Egbert. When her father was fatally injured in an industrial accident in 1932, Adeline took her children back to her beloved Kanab. Dolores loved growing up in Kanab and that red dirt stayed in her veins. She graduated from Kanab High School and then moved to Salt Lake City to work. She lived in the Beehive House while there.
Dolores married Mel Rider on October 1, 1950, and they moved to Richfield where they were able to raise their four children. Mel preceded her in death on October 21, 2019.
Dolores enjoyed sewing and was a beautiful seamstress. She made clothes for many people in the area and did alterations for The Olive Shoppe for many years. Later she went to work in the office at Christensen’s Department Store.
Dolores was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in Primary and Relief Society. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers serving as secretary for many years. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking, canning, reading and visiting with everyone.
For the last couple years, Dolores has resided at Stonehenge in Richfield. The family is very grateful for all the individuals who cared for her.
She is survived by her sons: Russ (Cheryl) Rider, Murrieta, CA; Jim (Zonda) Rider, Orem; and Ryan (Edna) Rider, Richfield; and 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters; brother, Hal (Nancy) Egbert, Salt Lake City. She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie Cowley; grandson, Daniel Cowley; sister, Barbara (Metz) Hamblin.
Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Kanab City Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening, July 31, 2020 from 5:30-7 pm, at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
