Dick Gates of Salina, was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 6, 1956. Dick passed away unexpectedly on March 28, 2024 in Provo at the young age of 67, the son of Don and Doraleen Gates. He was a wonderful husband to Janet Gates, loving father of Richard (Elizabeth) Gates, Orem; Teresa (Tony) Long, Centerfield; Breezy (Chris) Allen, Leamington, Utah; Bergundi Gates, Glendale, AZ; Brandi (Mark) Gates-Hanner, Tucson, AZ; BreaAnna (Gary) Pollock, Sigurd; Brady Gates, Salina; and Brenda (Frank) Gates, Tucson, AZ. He was the proud grandpa “Papa” to 8 grandchildren, and has 1 great-grandbaby on the way. Dick has 7 brothers and 1 sister. He is preceded in death by his son, Bruce Gates; daughter, Cherrilynn Gates; parents, Don and Doraleen Gates. Dick enjoyed golfing, camping, baseball and football. He loved being outside and in nature. In 1999 Dick and Janet made the long move to Ajo, Arizona with all of their children in tow. There, he worked as a driver for a local dairy for many years. In his spare time, he played golf and enjoyed volunteering as an umpire for the local little league team. Once he moved back to Salina, Dick enjoyed spending time with his siblings and in-laws. Often going to his father-in-law's house with many family members for coffee. Dick would go most mornings to Mom’s Cafe in Salina for coffee. One of his favorite things to do during the summer was watch the Atlanta Braves baseball game with his mom. Due to Dicks passing, the family is now burdened with grief and financial struggles including paying for his final resting services. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the Salina Creek Ward, where there will be a viewing from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery with military honors by the V.F.W.
