DeAnna Hansen
Centerfield, Utah
DeAnna Hansen, 83, loving daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away from bile duct cancer in Centerfield, Utah on June 26, 2021. DeAnna was born in Centerfield at the old farmhouse on April 19, 1938, to Mariel O. and Etta Fjeldsted Hansen.
DeAnna graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1957. She then went on to attend Henegars Business College. She never married but enjoyed being a second mother to her 43 nephews and nieces, and a great-aunt to all of their children.
She received her endowment in the Salt Lake Temple on May 10, 1972. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings – including Cub Scout leader, Relief Society board member, Young Women’s secretary, and Primary secretary to name a few.
DeAnna contracted Polio in October of 1952 at the age of 14. She spent 2 years in the Holy Cross Hospital and when she returned home, she was in a wheelchair. When asked if she ever felt sorry or angry about her condition, she would say, “No. The Lord has blessed me in many ways.” This was something she accepted without hesitation. She was always cheerful and willing to help whenever and wherever necessary.
She was employed for 32 years at Litton, INC. as an electronic assembler putting together circuit boards. After 21 years, she was awarded the Governors Craftsman Award which was given to employees that enabled Utah to maintain its reputation for high productivity and quality workmanship.
DeAnna was blessed with many talents and interests. She spent much of her time doing jigsaw puzzles, reading and making cards. She loved to crochet afghan blankets and make advent calendars. When she was younger, she was an avid sewer and created robes for the Cyprus High School Madrigal Choir, men’s suits, wedding dresses and t-shirts. She also loved to travel. She’s been to Hawaii, Canada, the Caribbean Islands and several trips to Georgia to visit her sister, Bonnie and her brother, Oren.
She was a member of the Centerfield Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She held the job of Parliamentarian until her recent illness.
DeAnna is survived by her siblings: Oren (Vivian), Roswell, GA; Verna Averett, Val Jean (Miriam) Hansen, Stephen L. (Janet) Hansen, LaRell C. (Debbie) Hansen, all of Centerfield; Irene (David) Brown, Taylorsville; Scott A. (Luann) Hansen, Springville; Sherry (Eddy) Allred, West Valley; and 42 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ilene Hansen, and Bonnie Hansen (Eugene) Gubeli; brother-in-law, Leo Averett; and nephew, Brad Averett.
The entire Hansen family would like to thank Gunnison Valley Hospice; DeAnna’s nurses, Pat and Lacey, and her aide, Alisha, for their loving care.
