Dean Leo Buchanan, 91, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend- passed away at the Mervyn Sharp Bennion Central Utah Veterans Home on May 15, 2024 peacefully with his family by his side. Dean was born in Manti, UT on January 15, 1933 to Duncan and Cloe Cox Buchanan. He lived most of his life in Ephraim, UT with his forever sweetheart Betty Arlene Lund Buchanan whom he married on August 17, 1956. They had three children, David (Lane) Buchanan, of Herriman UT; Pamela Buchanan (David Bough) of Elko NV; Michael (Mindee) Buchanan, of Manti UT. Dean’s early years were proudly shared by serving in the United States Army serving at Fort Douglas, UT. Dean eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After retirement, he went on to maintain a civilian job as a Supervisor at Fort Douglas. Dean served as the commander of the American Legion Post 31 and was a devoted member. He loved hunting and fishing from his early childhood up until the time his health wouldn’t allow him to go anymore. He served as the President of Sanpete Fish and Game Club for many years. Dean had a passion for being busy, serving, providing and being a helping hand to everyone that he could. Dean’s legacy will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched. He his adored by 8 grandchildren,10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Each of them will remember their grandfather for his boundless energy, charm and handsome smile, soft hands, calmness and always just being a phone call away. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan and Cloe Buchanan; wife, Arlene Buchanan; brother, Morlin Buchanan; sisters, Earla Lund and Carol Burke; granddaughter, Susan Wilkinson. Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Manti City Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Post #31 and the Utah Honor Guard.
