David Morris Orton Jr

David Morris Orton, Jr. 78, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2014 in Panguitch, Utah due to complications from diabetes. He was born on December 3, 1935, in Panguitch to David Morris and Wealtha DeMille Orton. He grew up in Panguitch and attended school there until he was 13 yrs old, when his family moved to California. He married Connie Avis Bowling on April 8, 1961 in Yuma Arizona. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on February 4, 1967.

David retired from the Teamsters Union in 1979 and then started a new career as a Certified Property Manager for large mobile home communities until 1998 when he finally retired again and moved home to Panguitch. He was a Panguitch boy through and through and was living in the house where he was born at the time of his death.

He was a member of the LDS Church and held the office of a Seventy. He had a deep testimony of the Gospel and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He served as the YM President of a combined the wards in Huntington Park, Maywood and Bell California and president of the Sunday School in Norwalk, California. He loved serving the youth and especially loved doing road shows and their ward took first place in the Hollywood Stake Regional. He had a beautiful singing voice and made two records, and shared his talents with those closest to him. He was a big teaser and had an outgoing personality. He was a friend to all that he met and had a smile that could light up a room. His laugh was deep and infectious and put a smile on everyone’s face who heard it. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the deer hunt cookouts with family and friends. His favorite thing in life was to be with his sweetheart Connie and all his family sharing special memories together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Connie of 53 years; daughter, Vickie (Dwight) Peacock, Enterprise; son, George Orton (Lisa Kudra), Pa’ia, Maui; grandchildren: Bryan Reid, Pensacola, FL; Kyle (Erica) Peacock, Russell Peacock, and Stefanee (Justin) Durham, all of St. George; great-grandchildren: Braxton, Jovee and Tytus, Alex, Elsie and Harper; brother, Keith (Marie) Orton, Panguitch; brother-in-law, Richard Terrell, Palm Springs, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lois Terrell.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support that has been shown to them during this very difficult time. And a very special Thanks to hospice and the Garfield Care Center for the love and kindness that was shown to Dave.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Panguitch 1st Ward Chapel, 550 South 100 West, where friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Panguitch Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
