Loomis, CA

David Carl Magleby, 81, passed away peacefully on the Magleby Farm in Loomis on Friday, March 20, 2015 with his wife, Sonya, of nearly 60 years by his side.

Dave was the third of five children born in Monroe, Utah on November 17, 1933 to Heber Newell and Madge Tuft Magleby. He loved working on family farms, playing basketball, and attending church. Dave attended Brigham Young University where he studied Geology and won the inter mural basketball championship in 1953. He married his childhood sweetheart, Sonya Diane Nielson, in the St. George Temple in November 1956. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and then in January 1957 he reported to Quantico, Virginia. Sonya joined him later that year. They lived on the Atlantic seaboard until they moved to California where they lived for 40 years.

Dave worked as a Geologist for the Bureau of Reclamation for the State of California for 33 years until he retired to full-time farm life in 1989.

Dave and Sonya lived together in Loomis where they raised three children, Mitch, Shelli, and Corey and enjoyed many years with their six grandchildren; Danielle, Taylor, Mason, Max, Hannah, and Sarah.

Friends and family are invited to attend services on Thursday, March 26 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3345 Margaret Drive, Loomis, California.

Graveside services and burial on Saturday, March 28 at 1:00 pm at the Monroe City Cemetery, Monroe, Utah, with military rites by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and the Utah Honor Guard.

Dave was loved by many. His kindness, friendly nature, and work ethic live on in all he touched. Arrangements in California by Magleby’s Oak Park Hills Chapel located in Walnut Creek, CA. Arrangements in Utah by Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
