David Kennedy Hirst

David Kennedy Hirst passed away April 12, 2014 in Manti. He was born May 30, 1938 in Maywood, California to Charles and Lila Kainz Hirst, the oldest of six children.

He was raised in California, then received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He served a Spanish-speaking mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas and New Mexico. Afterwards, he completed a Master’s Degree at Brigham Young University, where he met his eternal companion, Lianne Pierce. They were married on December 20, 1963 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple.

David had a long and successful career in the petroleum industry as an instrument engineer. Following retirement, David and Lianne served missions in Paraguay, Ciudad Juarez and the Washington D.C. temple.

One of the great loves of David’s life was gardening. He planted a garden wherever he lived, including in Paraguay and D.C. His love of Spanish-speaking people filled his life, in church service, at work and in the communities wherever he lived, especially in Sanpete County

They have four children: Michael (Lori Rice), Belleville, IL; Richard (Lori Campbell), Austin TX; Deborah (Michael) Woodbury, Manti; and Rebekah (Jeff) Jensen, San Jose, CA; 15 grandchildren; sisters: Jan Barnett, Coolidge, AZ and Ruth Beard, Lake Steven, WA.

David was buried in the Manti Cemetery on April 14, 2014. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19 at 12 Noon in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 450 North 200 West in Ephraim.
