David Armstrong

Bluffdale, Utah

It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Arthur Armstrong, beloved husband, father and friend. His sudden, unexpected passing has left all of us stunned and feeling the loss of this great man. His grandson Chase said it best "heaven got a great one tonight" (although they already had him).

David Arthur Armstrong, 72, passed away on May 22, 2017 in Lehi. He was born on July 5, 1944, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Wilson and Venice Taylor Armstrong.

David grew up in Idaho Falls. After high school he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He served as an officer in the US Navy. He established Builder’s Rent-All in 1978, and never really did retire.

David married his sweetheart and best friend, Marianne Ross on April 25, 1968 in Provo, Utah. The marriage was solemnized May 29, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were happily married for 49 years. Dave was an active member all his life in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different capacities: bishop, branch presidency, high council, stake YM president, ward YM president, Sunday school teacher, and temple worker. He was happiest working with the youth. As a young man he faithfully served in the Central Atlantic States Mission in 1963-65. Dave also served with his wife Marianne in three SLC Inner City missions. Together they served the last seven years as Addiction Recovery Program missionaries.

David proudly served in the Boy Scouts of America, and was a district chairman. He loved the scouting program.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the great outdoors. Trail riding was another love, especially exploring on the Paiute Trail. But his favorite sport was spoiling his grandkids.

David is survived by his wife, Marianne Armstrong; children: Erin (Ryan) Hunt, Tanya (Doug) Miller, Mark (Emily) Armstrong, Blake (Janice) Armstrong, Jeff (Michele) Armstrong, and Alicia (David) Bryan; siblings: Dick (Judy) Armstrong, Jim Gregory, Dan (Lorene) Armstrong, Diana (Kent) Secrist, Janice Vick, Karen (Mark) Mitchell, Tim (Marie) Ross and Annette Cutler; and his 28 grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Linda Gregory. Also by Mark and Leah Rae Ross, and Thomas Jeffery Ross.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bluffdale 5th Ward Chapel, 15040 Mountainside Drive, Bluffdale, Utah 84065, where friends may call from 8:00-9:30am. Burial will be in the Elsinore Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. with military rites by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and Navy Honor Guard. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
