Celebrating the remarkable life of Fredrick Darwin Jackson, 93, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose smile, love, and sense of humor enriched the lives of his family and friends. He passed away on May 1, 2024, in Richfield, surrounded by his loved ones leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Darwin was born in Venice on September 2, 1930 to Fredrick Moyle and Leola Eugenia Reeves Jackson. He attended grade school in Venice. His family moved to Richfield where he graduated from Richfield High School in 1948. Following high school, Darwin enlisted in the Navy through a special program, fulfilling his military duties in just one year. After he was discharged, he worked at a grocery store managed by his brother, Preston, in Loa. There he met his sweetheart, RaNae, who was a senior at Wayne High School. However, their courtship was cut short when the Korean War broke out and he was called back in the service for two years. While serving in the Navy, Darwin’s parents moved to Salt Lake City. After he was discharged, he lived with them and attended the University of Utah. He also worked at Hill Air Force Base as an armament technician and for Union Pacific as a surveyor in the summers. Darwin and RaNae were reunited and married on the 27th of June 1955 in the Manti Temple. Darwin continued his education at the University of Utah, worked various jobs, and accepted employment with Jackson and Jackson Consulting Engineers. This led to a position as an engineer with GarKane Power in Richfield. On June 1, 1962, they packed up their three children: Joni, Sandy and Skip and moved to their home on 465 North 300 West in Richfield, where they have lived for 62 years. Darwin was active in community affairs serving on the City of Richfield Water Board, Richfield City Planning Commission, Officer in the Sons of Utah Pioneers, RHS Booster Club, as well as other assignments. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Darwin served in many positions, including bishopric counselor, bishop of Richfield 2nd Ward, stake high councilman, stake clerk and his favorite — teacher in the Primary. Darwin and RaNae were service missionaries at Cove Fort for 4½ years. They also served as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple for 16 years during which Darwin served as a sealer for 13 years. He has a strong testimony and great love of his Savior, Jesus Christ. Darwin’s love of the outdoors included hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, camping and boating, with Lake Powell being a yearly Labor Day favorite. He loved all sports and was an avid BYU fan, even being selected as a BYU Fan of the Year. His greatest love and accomplishment and the thing that brought him the greatest joy and happiness was his family. Darwin is survived by his wife, RaNae; children: Joni (Gary) Larson, Sandy (Terry) Bybee, Skip (Faun) Jackson, Linda Ellis; son-in-law, Jeff Taylor; 24 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Staci Taylor; and his siblings. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Richfield 2nd Ward Chapel.
