Mac McCoy
Richfield, Utah
Darrell Keith "Mac" McCoy, age 81, returned to his Heavenly Father and the loving arms of his sweetheart, JoAnn Spencer, on Thursday, March 19, 2015 in Gunnison. Our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather will be remembered with love. "Love is stronger than death even though it can’t stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can’t separate people from love. It can’t take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death." – Unknown
Mac was born July 28, 1933, at Mound Township, Effingham, Illinois to John Emmet McCoy and Beatrice Maudette Byers.
For Mac, serving and giving of himself were as natural as breathing, and his life was one of unselfish service. As a young boy he worked at before-and-after school jobs to help his mother support their family. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy and became a Seabee, serving his country during the Korean War. At the age of 25 Mac met the love of his life and he and JoAnn began their life together.
Mac was a very hard worker throughout his life. Mac worked for Sperry as a machinist on the Minuteman Missiles and also worked as a Millwright at Hill Air force Base. After moving to Richfield in the 1970's, Mac worked at the SUFCo Coal Mine for over 25 years. Mac was a gifted mechanic and amazing gardener, and freely shared his talents to help those around him. He enjoyed sharing the produce from his garden as much as he enjoyed growing it. In later years Mac joined the LDS Church and he and JoAnn were sealed in the Manti Temple, after which they served the Lord as temple workers. Mac later married Jean Osguthorpe and they shared several wonderful years together.
Mac's spirit of mischief, hard work and selflessness will be remembered with a smile and a tear by those who survive him: his sister, Joyce (Bud) Hicks; his children:Kevin Keith (Judy) McCoy, Grantsville; Kelly Jo (Pete) White, Mytchett, England; and Kenny (Kim) McCoy, Bicknell; his second wife, Jean Timmerman Osguthorpe; one grandson, six granddaughters, three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Mac was preceded in death by his adored wife JoAnn; his parents; his beloved step-father, Kenneth Eugene Finfrock; his younger brother, Charles Russell McCoy, and his older sisters: Betty Jean McCoy and Mary Wanita Higgs.
