Darrell Warren
Gunnison, Utah

Darrell Welby Warren, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on October 16, 2023 in Centerfield.
Darrell was born September 20, 1935 in Mapleton to Welby and Mabel Dibble Warren. He attended Mapleton Elementary and Springville High School. Following graduation from high school, he received a scholarship to play basketball at Snow College. After graduation from Snow College, he served a mission in Australia for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon completion of an honorable mission, he returned to marry his sweetheart, Rula Thompson on September 11, 1959 in the Manti Temple.
He furthered his education at Utah State University, graduating with a degree in Education.  Darrell’s first teaching experience was at Gunnison Valley Elementary School for five years. Teaching was followed by working in administration as the principal of GVES, then Manti High School, and finally as assistant superintendent for the South Sanpete School District.  He received his administrative degree at Northern Arizona State University, and masters degree from Brigham Young University.
Darrell’s life was one of faithful service to his Father in heaven and his fellow men.  He served as bishop of the Gunnison 1st Ward for eight years and bishop of the Gunnison 4th Ward at the correctional facility for five years. He also served in the Gunnison stake presidency for nine years.  He was so proud of the present Gunnison stake center as he was instrumental in the initial discussions, planning, acquiring needed local contributions, excavation and completion of the building.
Darrell loved his family, and he was so proud of them and their accomplishments. He adored his grandchildren; spending time with them brought him much happiness. He really enjoyed being able to spend time with his family, especially our family reunions in the mountains.
He is survived by his faithful companion of 64 years, Rula; children: Randy Warren, Lehi; David (Susan) Warren, Ephraim; Suzanne Hunter, Ephraim, Sherri (Jeremiah) Hill, Eagle Mountain; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; siblings; Morris (Sharon) Warren, Evelyn (Mike) Deamer, Karen Averett; sister-in-law Connie Warren.
Also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lisa;  sister, Marge (Roger) Hutchings; brother, Jesse Warren; brother-in-law, John Averett; a sister-in-law, June Moody.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gunnison Stake Center, where friends may call Sunday evening from 6-7 p.m. or Monday morning from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Ephraim Park Cemetery.  Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
