Darreld Varcel "Dukes" Neilson, 78, of Henrieville, passed away March 23, 2016 in Panguitch. He was born February 6, 1938 in Henrieville to James Varcel and Lula Mary Chynoweth Neilson. He married Mary Lou Twitchell, March 21, 1959 in Cannonville. The marriage was solemnized November 20, 1965 in the St. George Temple. She preceded him in death December 29, 2013.

Darreld worked as a timber cutter for Kaibab Industries for several years. Prior to that he worked at the Page Power Plant. While working for Kaibab Industries, Darreld and Mary Lou spent their time living in their trailer at Kaibab Camp. Many of their grandchildren were fortunate to spend time in camp with grandma and grandpa.

Being raised in Bryce Valley, he spent a great deal of his spare time also working as a cowboy. He spent many days, on horseback, in the lower country with his Grandpa Harvey Chynoweth and Uncle Ralph Chynoweth. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in several callings.

Darreld is survived by his mother, Lula Moore, Henrieville; children: Toni Marie (Alfred) Foster, Kelly "Zeke" (KayeLynn) Nielson, both of Tropic; Sheri (Arthur) Miller, Panguitch; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Frankie (Gayle) Moore, Henrieville; sister-in-law, Kathryn Neilson, Henrieville

He is also preceded in death by his father; brothers: Cloyd Andrew Neilson and Doyle Harvey Neilson; son-in-law, Russell "Snap" Hatch.

Besides loving their biological family, Darreld and MaryLou fostered many kids in their home, showing them love, support and stability while they cared for them. Tiffany Platero remains close and is still considered a part of the family. Darreld is greatly loved and will be missed by all those who were fortunate to have been loved by him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 12:00 Noon in the Henrieville LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 or on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30. Burial will be in the Henrieville Cemetery.
