Daniel John Spencer, 77, of Escalante, passed away September 16, 2014 in Murray.
He was born M ay 23, 1937 in Escalante to William Vincent and LaRue Stephens Spencer. He married Lois Schow in the St. George Temple on May 29, 1956.
Daniel served in the National Guard. He was the manager of Rio Virgin Telephone Company and South Central Communications. He loved anything outdoors: camping, fishing, riding ATV’s and dune buggies.
Daniel was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings through the years. He was involved in the community and many organizations. He served as president of the Lion’s Club and Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Enjoyed square dancing. He was a councilman in the city of Mesquite when it first became incorporated. He was also fire chief of the Mesquite Volunteer Fire Department. A member of the Escalante American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Escalante; children: Chris (Theron) Jensen, Mesquite, NV; Sarah (Lyle) Hughes, Mesquite, NV; Audrey (Collin) Everett, Bullhead, AZ; James (Allison) Spencer, Bunkerville, NV; and Judy (Ken) Green, Mesquite, NV; 24 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; siblings: Bill (Susie) Spencer, Kenneth (Rita) Spencer, Cathy (Tom) Marshall, Linda Langan-Jeltema, David (Verlene) Spencer; sister-in-law, Linda Spencer.
Preceded in death by parents; granddaughter, Denni Lyn Jensen; great-granddaughter, Kylie Houston; brother Ronald Spencer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 12:00 Noon in the Escalante 1 st Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the EscalanteCemetery with military rites by the Escalante American Legion Post #0114 and the Utah Honor Guard.
