Dan Wintch

Manti, UT

Dan K Wintch, 83, passed away peacefully October 8, 2017, at his home in Manti, Utah.

Dan was born March 11, 1934, to Fredrick William and Emma Louise Ventris Wintch. When he was young, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping mountain lions, and any other activity that would take him "up the mountain."

He married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Ann Cox, May 17, 1952. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple, July 2, 1956. Together they have 4 children, 17 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren. Family was the center and most important part of his life.

Dan worked hard all of his life. He had a variety of jobs starting when he was quite young working summers at Deseret Livestock. He was a talented auto mechanic, ran his own business, worked road construction, taught auto mechanics at Snow College, and was the building engineer at the Manti Temple for a time. He spent several summers living on the mountain keeping watch over cattle for the Cattleman’s Association. Dan felt most at home on the mountain.

He had many interests and talents. He was an active Ham Radio Operator (K7TGL) and avid horseman. Dan enjoyed square dancing, four-wheeling, hunting, fishing, camping, arrow-head hunting and checking on the cows even after his time was officially over as their watchman. Dan served as an unofficial tour guide on countless trips to the desert and mountains with family and friends. His grandchildren remember the horse rides, jeep rides, sleigh riding trips, and building a log cabin in the back yard, just for fun.

Dan gave unselfishly of his time and talents throughout his life, touching many who were fortunate enough to cross his path. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dan is survived by his wife, Patsy Ann Wintch; his children: Michael K (Lynda) Wintch, Manti; David D (Margaret) Wintch, Erda; Shelley Ann (Roger) Alder, Manti; Carma Marie (David) Sikich, Draper; siblings: Thomas Kenneth, West Jordan; Alice Louise (Niel) Christensen, Pleasant Grove; James Wayne (Rose) Wintch, San Diego, CA; Jean Sandstrom, Lewiston, ID; as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Fredrick William Wintch Jr. and Johnny Boyd Wintch; and sisters: Wanda (Darrell) Duncan and Carma (Joe) Barney; brothers-in-law Darrell Duncan, Joe Barney and Don Sandstrom; and sister-in-law Enid Wintch.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Manti Tabernacle. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Manti City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
