Colleen Toomer
Richfield, Utah
Our amazing mother, grandmother and friend, Colleen Mae Cook Toomer passed away June 8, 2024 in Richfield surrounded by her loving family. While her passing leaves us already missing her, she has blessed us with so many of her gifts and talents, family values, hard work, stubborn, independent, yet spunky attitude and so many memories right up until she left into eternity.
Colleen was born to Norman and Lenna Jacobson Cook on March 21, 1932 in Ogden. She married her sweetheart, William Clyde Toomer, in Idaho Falls, ID. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later blessed with three children: Marc, Merri and Melanie.
Colleen grew up in Idaho where she was the eldest of her two sisters. Things weren’t so easy then, and she went into the workforce early because times were so tough. She was found picking potatoes, and what a hard worker she was, even the boys struggled to keep up with her. As a young girl she enjoyed singing and playing the violin. As a lovely young lady she went to work at the Idaho Falls Bank. After her marriage to Bill they found a new home in Richfield.
Colleen was originally employed by Crofts Lumber Yard doing the books, then Bob Hall found her and recruited her to work for him at Hall Drug. For 16 years she worked for Bob as she was also helping Bill at the B-L. She served in many church capacities, from being the Primary president to also working with the Mutual and Relief Society. She also met the capacity of being the president of the Jay-C-Ette’s, then on with the Business & Professional Women. She was nominated as Professional Business Woman of the year in 1985.
After Bill retired in 1995 the two traveled with their truck and fifth wheel with the Good Sam club and enjoyed spending time traveling with friends. They spent the winters in AZ to avoid all the cold and the snow that Richfield would offer. She loved to travel and could be packed and ready to go in nothing flat.
One of Colleen’s greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to visit and spend time with all of them.
Colleen is survived by her son, Marc (Tammy) Toomer, Richfield; daughter, Melanie Hales, Martinez, CA; sister, Sondra ‘Sunny’ Morgan, Idaho Falls, ID. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, William ‘Bill’ Clyde Toomer; daughter, Merri Jacobs; sister Marilyn ‘Mickey’ (David) Bailey; brother-in-law, Brent Morgan.
We imagine the reunion with her husband and daughter must have been glorious.
