Colleen Nielson
Centerfield, Utah
Colleen Mary Christensen Nielson, 96, returned home on May 22, 2024 in Centerfield. She always said that she prayed every night that Neil, her husband, who had passed away 7 years earlier would come and take her with him. But this never happened. She said that he probably didn’t have his hearing aids turned on and couldn’t hear her or he had gone to a cattle auction somewhere and couldn’t leave.
She spent a lifetime providing service to her family, to those in the church and in the community. She always welcomed family and friends with a smile when she met them on the street. She was a devoted grandmother, who loved each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She could make a meal out of nothing and you were well fed afterwards.
She was born on March 1, 1928 to Ernal Ledale Christensen and Una Ann Peterson in Redmond. She married John Neil Nielson on July 8, 1948 in Redmond. The marriage was sealed in the Manti Temple on September 12, 1949. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2017. She spent a life-time of church service.
She is survived by her children: Sandra and Lyman Holyoak, Centerfield; Hal and Marie Nielson, Washington; and Kendra Childs, Page, AZ; 17 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons: Brent Ledale, Rohn Neil; granddaughter, Tauna Holyoak Blackburn; siblings: Kirk Christensen, Una Christensen, Shelley Lund.
We would like to express thanks to the services provided by Mission at Community Rehabilitation in Centerfield, Gunnison Valley Hospice in Gunnison, and Renew Home Health in St. George.
