Colleen Hess

January 13, 1949 — April 30, 2011

Colleen Cave Hess, 62, passed away peacefully in Manti with her family by her side on April 30, 2011. Colleen was born January 13, 1949 in Wendell, Idaho, one of three daughters to Charles Richard and Helen Garr Cave. She married Jon Hess, January 19, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Colleen lived in Washington Terrace until her marriage where she lived in Roy, for the next 18 years. In 1992, Colleen realized her dream of living in Manti, where she remained until her death.

Colleen was an incredible wife and mother known for her generous and outgoing character. She will always be remembered for her infectious happiness, adventurous and silly countenance. There wasn’t a man, woman, child or animal in need that she wouldn’t help. She retired from Six County Association of Government Sanpete Community Assistance Office and she also owned and operated Yesteryear Horse and Carriage Business where she spent years conducting wedding and history tours in Manti.

Colleen was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she most recently served in the Manti 4 th Ward as an organist and Gospel Doctrine teacher. She had a passion for horses, genealogy, music and traveling.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, and her children: Richard Hess, Ephraim; Robert Hess, Manti; Katie Blake, Pleasant View; Angie Harden, Mesa, AZ; Sarah Walk, Ephraim; Amber Christiansen, Saratoga Springs; Matthew Hess, Roy; and Susie Johnson, Ephraim. Colleen also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and two sisters Kathy Orrock and Dixie Davies, both of Hooper.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Charles Richard and Helen Garr Cave; and a foster son, Glen Holliday.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Manti 4 th Ward, 555 East Union Street, Manti. Friends may call at the Church on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. and prior to the services on Saturday from 10:00-12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Manti City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
