Clayton August Washburn, 102, died at his home in Monroe, Utah on February 5, 2017. He was born in Monroe on August 21, 1914, to Jesse and Christy Olson Washburn. He married Helen Constance Watters on June 25, 1943 in Bridgewater, MA.
A graduate of the University of Utah, Clayton, an electrical engineer, contributed to the war effort in the development of radar at the MIT Radiation Laboratory. His subsequent engineering work in industry, consulting and his own companies, developed innovative technologies in television, typesetting and other fields. The value of his contributions is attested to by the award of over twenty patents.
Although most of his engineering career was in the east, upon retirement in his late eighties, he returned to Utah to build his dream home within eyesight of the place of his birth.
Clayton is survived by his wife of 73 years; children: David, Christie, Gay and Sharon; 2 grandchildren; two brothers and a sister.
A service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 10, 2017 at his home, 2580 N Washburnville Road, Monroe. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
