Christine Langston
Richfield, Utah
Christiane Jeanne Elisa Mennechet Langston, 94, joined her son Michael, her parents, and her sweetheart Verl on December 24, 2020; passing in Richfield, Utah. She was born on January 2, 1926, the only child of Yvonne Adelina Clement and Elie Phillipe Mennechet in Laon, France. She attended the Lycee school in Laon, reading and writing cursive by the age of four. She was the star athlete on the basketball and gymnastics teams. When she was 14, the Nazis invaded France and occupied Laon. They bravely lived amongst the Nazis while going on with their daily lives. In 1944 the allies liberated Loan, which is how Christiane met Verl. They married May 29, 1946, in Laon. He passed away July 16, 2013.
Christiane sailed to America on a troop ship and learned to adapt to her new life and thrived in a completely different environment. Any activity she tried she excelled at. She held the record for the highest women’s score for many years at the Richfield bowling alley. She enjoyed golfing, and she coached the LDS 2nd Ward’s girls’ softball, volleyball, and basketball teams for many years. When she was no longer able to bowl or golf, she took up oil painting. She was an excellent painter, and her art graces the homes of many friends and family. She taught oil painting and people drove from all over Utah to attend her classes. She was an avid reader of both English and French literature. She was a Scrabble whiz, as her children and grandchildren very seldom beat her, even in her nineties. She learned to knit and crochet at a young age and her work was impeccable. She loved playing Pinochle and Bridge and was seldom outplayed.
Her most important achievement was as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters: Ann Lyne (Ronald) Oldroyd, Karen (Brad) Sampson; son, Eric Rulon (Sherolyn) Langston; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Peterson Langston; 14 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Kat Meacham for her loving care shown to our mother.
