Charlene Hunt
Sigurd, Utah
Early in the morning hours of August 14, 2018 with her hand softly held by a loved one, Charlene Bastian Powell Hunt moved from her body to fly free. At once she was joyfully embraced by the light of a new dawn to be reborn into her new life.
Like the Red Tailed Hawk uses the power of the wind to hold them aloft while they soar,
Charlene relied upon her faith in the love and power of Jesus Christ to hold her aloft while she
journeyed through this earthly life.
Charlene Bastian landed on this rolling rock on November 16th of the year 1938. Glen and Berniece Bastian likely had no idea what kind of ride they were in for, when this long-legged,
tender-hearted, musical, and artsy child showed up in their world. To hear Mom speak of her
parents, she could not have been blessed with better, she truly loved and respected them. At the tender age of 17 she won an art scholarship through Hallmark. Grandpa Glen said that Kansas was too far for his Suzi to wander. She never spoke regretfully for respecting his wish that she stay home, she loved her Dad with her whole heart.
This is but a chapter in the story of Charlene. A larger than life energy whose attention on a person made them feel better just by her focus upon them. To be as loved as Charlene is, speaks volumes about how she lived and the way she loved people, animals and life.
To write for Mom without mentioning what life was like with her would be a disservice to her memory. Things that were constants in our world…piano music which was played by ear of course, her voice lifted, lilted and laughed as she sang about a little mule named Simon Slick, fry bread and strawberry jam, a constant stream of life, people who represented every kind, walk, color and philosophy were drawn to and flowed through her world, art projects in process laid out on the kitchen table, a true love for native peoples, continual excursions to look for UFOs, spiritual conversations, laughter and always, her encouragement that we love Christ first and foremost.
This amazing soul shared her light with us for what seems to us to be far too brief a time. Some ancient agreement decreed that Mom be the guide and guardian to a crew of mild to wild ruffians - her yayhoos: Lori, Hayes, Vince, Joey, Jamie and JaLene. Mom always counted Cindie, Kerri and Tim among her chillins. She loved them and truly tried to do right by them. In truth, however, those of us who called her Mom, always knew she was mother to any child or animal who needed her, no matter the age, her heart was always open and knew no limits to the capacity for love.
Those who waited to see her again: her parents - Glen & Berniece Bastian; her brothers: Garn K & Max Bastian; her daughter, Lori Kae Powell; many other loved ones.
Those of us waiting to see her again: her sister, Ileen McBride; her brother, Brent Bastian; her children: Hayes & Sheila Powell, Vince & Carrie Powell, Joey Hunt, Jamie & Brent Morrison, JaLene B Hunt & Jo Hunt Jones; a host of her much loved grand and great-grandchildren; and…35 community cats who call Char’s neighborhood home. Charlene was very dedicated to the care of cat communities.
Mom loved flowers and Mom loved cats, so a gift of flowers or a donation to
Char’s Happy OutCats at GoFundMe will be happily and appreciatively accepted.
