Our cherished mother, grandmother and friend, Carol Hunt Barney, 79 passed away on September 21, 2021. Carol was born in Burley, Idaho on Feb 2, 1942 to Ruth Greener and Marvin Hunt. She was later joined by a brother Lonnie David.

Carol married Gerald Othello Barney on December 24, 1958.  Together they were blessed with four children.  Within four years they quickly added Jimmy, Melanie and Donnie, Patricia followed 10 years later.   Preceded in death by her brother Lonnie, mother Ruth, stepfather Chester Lay; son, Jimmy.

When Carol’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Carol was an exceptional wife and mother. She sewed her boy’s shirts and the girl’s dresses. She bottled fruit and vegetables to carry her family through the winter. She was a great cook and waited hand and foot on her husband.

When the kids were all in school, she worked at the planer mill, Canyon Country and Prospector Restaurant. She loved working and cherished the friends she made. She was a great grandmother and spent many years caring for her grandkids, who adored her.  Carol never got her drivers license until later in life, but she made up for lost time as and she spent her free time puttering around town with a Diet Coke and her dog Sparky in tow.

Carol was a character to be sure.  Whether it was getting older, or her Alzheimer’s our once reserved girl became quite outspoken and you were never sure what was going to come out of her mouth.  She loved puzzles, cross stitch, western movies and Elvis.

She will truly be missed, and we will remember her dedication to her family and her strength in tough situations.

We want to express our deep gratitude to the ladies at the Beehive Memory Care and Hospice for taking such good care of her over the last 18 months.
